It is time to use common sense rather than listening to those who are so tolerant to allow a Trojan horse to infiltrate our community and resist following the practice of values consistent with much of our Canadian society. The cost of this neglect is now being passed on to our security agencies, who are unable to cope with the number of those needed to be under surveillance because their actions and involvement in posing a threat to other Canadians and the country. We are paying the price of neglecting improved background checks as suggested by many civilian employees in Canadian embassies throughout the world. Much of this could have been avoided with better background checks. Canada has admitted war criminals from many countries, then spent considerable funds to send them back to Europe, Africa, and Asia. Job applicants usually produce résumés, while those wishing to work with vulnerable people require a police background report. Much has been made of Kellie Leitch’s proposal to check immigrants for Canadian values, yet she is not proposing anything different from what is practised routinely.
